OK so I'm planning on buying a laptop capable of replacing my Desktop, i want it to last a while. Current specs i'm looking at are as follows: ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Intel® Core™ i7 740QM (1.73 Ghz, 6MB, 4C) 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX260M graphics card 8192MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x4096] 250GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive 15.6-inch Wide Full HD Display (1920x1080) Blu-Ray ROM combo (Blu-ray read only, DVD, CD read & write) Slot Load Drive 9-cell 85Whr Lithium Ion battery ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Firstly is 8gb ram Ridiculous/pointless? (yes i have 64bit win7) If so, is 6gb a better idea or 4gb? Secondly, that processor looks terrible to me via stats, however looking online apparently it isn't? Anyone know about Intel i- processors? I CAN (However don't really want to) get this processor instead (If it is better? I have no idea): Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 620M(2.66GHz,4MB cache, 2C) ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Any more info you want just ask. Price isn't completely an issue. Don't ask my how much this is costing so far, i'm in denial :X
well, it needs to replace pc, so Gaming is a must. That's probably the most memory using thing i'll do, Apart from maybe some HD movie compiling/decompiling
I don't think this place is gonna give me much answers as it's more personal decisions that need to be made, however anyone know which is better gtx260m or ATI hd 5850? Google seems split :X
It really depends if the 5850 is GDDR3 or GDDR5. If it's the GDDR5 model then that's the better card, if not, then the GTX260m is the better choice.
Also, get the 5850. Radeon owns laptop graphics and nvidia fanboys don't want to admit it. There will be many more options you can set for your card, more driver support, and much better graphics, also the gddr5 is just icing on the cake. The 8gs of ram is not a must, if you really want a lot get 6gs, but just saying, any game out on the market today doesnt need more than 4. Also, those experts, don't rely on them, there dumbass Indians.
Ya i know, And thing is. Buying 6gb will mean purchasing for 64bit which is more money. So if i'm spending like an extra 300£ for the extra 2gb i may aswel get the 8gb for only like 110£ more?
That's why I said to get the 5850 if its the GDDR5 model. It's not worth it if it was the GDDR3 though, but since it is the GDDR5, he should get that because it's worlds better. As for RAM, I would do what I said on Steam, flip a coin 50 times and see what the outcome is. xD
I think you may want a bigger screen. I use both a laptop (that can't play games and is from the year 2000) has a 15 inch screen which often seems much smaller when I go between it and my 21(~) inch and 24 inch monitors on my desktop. Oh, and I have 8 gigs of ram, and I have capped it running around 4-5 games, Skype, Outlook, Firefox (30+ tabs), and a Logitech G19 keyboard all at the same time xD
