Discord, VoIP and other messaging apps pretty much killed forums off circa 2015, they're grossly inefficient at conveying anything in real-time, and only really useful for a static place to publish permanent fixtures like release notes, or to control structured threads like applications or appeals. Adding on to this, most players don't want to manage separate forum credentials because it's yet another thing to remember. You can get plugins for forums but usually they just "authenticate" and you need the separate creds anyways. If I had time I'd probably remake the forums (it is something I'm interested in doing, probably won't happen mind) with full steam authentication. FWIW I do appreciate you trying to get more activity here though!
