Where we pretend to know how to code.

We moved the blog (again).

We’ve updated our blog platform (again).

Our infrequent posting leads to two primary issues. Firstly, it’s another set of login credentials to keep track of when posts are sporadic at best. Secondly, our irregular logins mean we sometimes miss critical updates for our blog software, WordPress. While we’ve fortunately avoided any severe repercussions from these oversights, it’s a situation we’d prefer to avoid in the future.

As a result of the above, I’ve decided it’s time for a change. We’re moving away from conventional blog software to a custom-built solution that generates static web pages.

A benefit of this transition is the storage of all images in a git repository. This strategy greatly reduces the risk of content loss during software changes which is an issue we’ve encountered in the past. This new approach may present some difficulties for some authors (E.g. Kaiden), but I’m confident we can work around them.

The only downside to this is we lose some automation / neat benefits like Wordpress had (such as scheduling posts) but it just means we’ll need to plan stuff like that out a little better - or recreate such features as / when we need them.

This change doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll increase our posting frequency. But this shift serves as an exploratory step towards potentially developing our own custom wiki or forum software in the future which is something that’s always been considered but never pursued.

It was pretty nice going down memory lane though and seeing how the team has both matured and learned over the years - from funny (and somewhat benign posts) to more serious and technical ones. It’s been a wild ride and I’m pretty interested to see how we continute to grow from here!
